Child and Young Person Therapy
Online therapy for children and young people, adapted to their age and understanding, with parents and carers involved in a way that is agreed from the start.
Who this is for
Children and young people in England who are struggling with anxiety, low mood, worry, anger, school-related difficulties, friendships or change at home. A parent or guardian arranges therapy and is involved in agreeing how it will work.
What sessions involve
- An initial conversation with the parent or guardian about what is happening.
- Building trust with the child or young person at their pace.
- Approaches adapted to age, understanding and communication style.
- Practical strategies the young person can actually use.
- Agreed involvement of parents or carers, and of school where helpful.
- Regular review of whether the work is helping.
Confidentiality, suitability and crisis support
How information is shared between the young person, parents and PRC is agreed at the start, alongside PRC’s safeguarding responsibilities. Therapy does not guarantee improvement or a particular outcome, and it is not a cure. Therapy is not a crisis service and does not provide urgent or out-of-hours support.
Sessions, duration and your therapist

Frequently asked questions
What is shared with parents is agreed at the start, balancing the young person’s need for a private space with PRC’s safeguarding responsibilities. This is explained clearly before therapy begins.
No. Therapy is based on the difficulties your child is experiencing rather than on holding a diagnosis.
Online therapy suits many children and young people, and the approach is adapted accordingly. PRC will discuss whether it is likely to suit your child.
Therapy is not a crisis service. If you need urgent help, contact NHS 111, or call 999 if someone is in immediate danger.
