Frequently asked questions
Yes. PRC offers a separate adult ADHD assessment and a child and young person ADHD assessment. The child pathway is arranged with a parent or guardian and is informed by the people who know the child well.
No. An assessment does not guarantee a diagnosis. Its purpose is to reach an accurate answer, which may be that ADHD is not present. You will still receive a report and recommendations either way.
No. Assessment, treatment and ongoing support are separate stages. An assessment establishes whether ADHD is present and what would help. If medication is clinically appropriate, it is arranged separately after the assessment, with its own titration, monitoring and review appointments.
Not automatically. An Existing Diagnosis and Transfer-of-Care Review considers your diagnostic report and relevant records and reaches a clinical view. Additional assessment may be required, treatment is not automatically accepted, and medication is not guaranteed.
GP shared-care acceptance cannot be guaranteed. Shared care is a decision for your GP practice, and some practices decline. If shared care is not agreed, you may need to continue paying privately for prescriptions, reviews and monitoring for as long as you remain on medication.
A diagnosis on its own is often not enough. PRC offers ADHD coaching and post-diagnosis support covering routines, organisation, emotional regulation and practical strategies, along with parent psychoeducation for families. Therapy is available where it is appropriate to your needs.
